Studies show that 45% of our time should be spent in listening and only 30% on talking, the rest should be distributed on reading and writing, but this is not being followed nowadays where people talk most of the time and spare less time listening to what others want to say.
But did you know that if only we could learn to listen first before smashing words after words we could prevent tons of heartaches, failures, pains, anxiety and misunderstanding and eventually create a good and harmonious relationship in and out our home.
And its not only that, with careful listening we could continuously learn new things so we can expand our horizon.
How to be an effective Listener
After I share with you the benefits of listening, you may also want me to share with you some suggestions on how to become an effective listener. here are some guidelines:
- Judge the content not how it was delivered
- Delay the judgment until speaker is finish
- Listen to the main idea
- Take note of the important words
- avoid physical & environmental destructions
- Listen with open mind
- Analyze, evaluate & review message
- Talk less & listen more
Talking is good, but we should also make use of our ears often so we can find our way through a more effective communication.
