Staying Healthy During Hard Times

Overcoming the pain of relationship woes and staying healthy at the same time for men.

Relationships are a lot of hard work. Sometimes that hard work ends up not paying off, which is a sad but real part of life. This doesn't mean that the hard work should stop, however. Rather, this point in a man's life should be seized as an opportunity to better oneself instead of letting go altogether.

Broken hearts hurt, and this pain affects all areas of a man's life, especially his health. I have dealt with this firsthand and know that sometimes taking care of yourself is the last thing on your mind. You are consumed by the pain, the hurt that you feel-but the worst disservice you can do yourself is to let yourself go.

Earlier this year, my wife of eleven years abruptly told me that she wanted to get separated on my thirty-first birthday. I was absolutely devastated. Barely able to force down one small meal a day, I rapidly began losing weight. Ultimately I ended up losing forty pounds, but I wouldn't recommend this diet to anyone.

Fortunately, I found ways to keep my health up through this time of adversity in my life. Drinking Ensure when I couldn't eat made sure that my body was at least getting some nutrition while it mourned the loss of the life it had known for so long. Protein bars also helped make sure that I wasn't losing what muscle I had left during this weakening ordeal.

Another thing that I immediately began doing was exercising. Exercise makes you feel better, giving you a sense of accomplishment. Of course, the benefits of a strong and developed body are many, not to mention that it makes you look and feel better while raising testosterone levels, helping your body and mind to get back on track. Once this happens, you are able to face the world again.

Someone once said, “Attitude determines altitude.” Nothing could be truer. Maintaining a positive outlook and friendly demeanor helps let the world know that you are not broken and that you will survive, because you will. Imagine all the beautiful women out there, women that you could meet and get to know who will treat you the way you deserve to be treated. You can, and will, live to love again.

We live in a strange world, a world where nothing is as it seems. Relationships for some no longer have the same meaning to those involved, whether the feeling is mutual or not. We as men cannot let this get us down.

Of course, you are going to have to take time to nurse your wounds and get back in the game, but the important thing is to know that you will be back in the game. As soon as you're able, start eating well, incorporating fruits and vegetables into your diet. If you're not up to going out to a gym, start exercising at your home. Push-ups and sit-ups cost nothing, and you can start small. This main this is to start.

We all fall on hard times. The important thing is to not let these hard times consume our lives. Keep yourself healthy, get back out there, and you will see that life is good-but if you let your health go, you'll never get to know just how good it can be.
