It started on an internet dating site, a primary contact with a man who seemed perfect for me, tall, intelligent, articulate with all his own teeth and all his own hair. I suppose I should have realized it was too good to be true.
This was my first experience of chatting on line and I was surprised how quickly I started to make a connection with this man, chatting long into the night and covering every topic under the sun. Several weeks later I was eager to meet him. A venue chosen, nerves overcome, dressed up and eager I met a man who was amusing, attentive and in perfect tune.
I fell in love with him the first time he kissed me, Just like that, long past my teenage years I was taken by surprise, to feel so intently so quickly. Every time we meet I fell harder and harder and felt closer and closer. Only when I thought I was pregnant did he tell he was still married.
Should I have recognized the signs - broken dates, the fact I never met his family or friends? Yes maybe I should have but I didn't - Ignorance is bliss they say and they are right. Much as he still thinks there is nothing wrong with our relationship I can't see him again and every night I give thanks that I have managed somehow to get through another day without picking up the phone and saying, "yes, love you are right, live is too short not to take our pleasure where we can."
