The Pain of Breaking Up

How young women should deal with a break-up.

Breaking-up is one of the most threatening emotional struggles among youth especially women. It is during this period when they tend to lose a significant portion of their self-esteem, that is, confidence and pride. No matter how simple or complex the reason of which can somehow affect their emotional adaptability.

Most of them tend to spend hours in their room without talking to anyone, lose their appetite in their favorite foods, and find difficulty in sleeping at night. Worst, they may drop enthusiasm and motivation out on certain areas like education and other beneficial interests which they used to enjoy.

Some girls, despite being raised with strict morals, tend to gulp down their pride by trying to recover the broken relationship. They tend to follow the urges of their hearts and ignore the willpower of their minds.

Because in dealing with this kind of emotional misery, it is the mind which should have ultimate control over the heart. However, breaking-up can be easier with these simple ways:

  1. Keep Remembrances Away For A While

    Seal in a box all the love letters, cards, stuffed toys, and other sentimental things which he gave you. It helps lessen the pain by not seeing things associated with him. When the feeling is over, you can open it with a smile. You'll be thankful of yourself that you have kept memories of your teenage years.
  2. Get Busy

    Try to load your mental and physical phases with your most wanted hobbies. If you love movies, watch with your family or friends as often as you want but avoid love stories for the meantime.
  3. Be Generous With Your Smile

    Avoid frowning and making faces. Make smiling your regular habit. It creates good mood and lightens up the situation. It also affects other people positively and they will never forget you.
  4. Avoid Looking Back or Reminiscing

    Thinking over the past is absolutely a waste of time and only brings bitterness back. Delight yourself with new things like, a new friend whom you have just met at the park, the special dessert in a restaurant which you have finally tasted after a long period of time of longing for it, or get hooked by a new novel of your favorite author.
  5. Don't Entertain Regret

    Be positive. Open your eyes to new suitors but it does not necessarily mean you have to commit yourself easily to a new relationship. Take your time. The worst you can do is regret over what happened to your relationship. Be happy and thankful that you have experienced how to love and be loved.

love and breaking up is a universal thing. everyone at some point in their lives will go through this stage. however, there is no universal formula or antidote for getting over a break up. each one of us has a different way of coping but these tips are of help too. ultimately, it is the initiative and will power of the individual which will dictate when or how one will get his/her acts together and start to move on. =)

Tarra, I've tried your nos. 1 and 2 advices and it really worked for me when I broke up with my boyfriend who ruthlessly cheated on me but still I couldn't help reminiscing. Anyway, nice article!
