The Role of The Cheerleader in a Relationship

It is important to be supportive of your loved one when they are pursuing their life's goals.

In any relationship, it is very important at times to be “the cheerleader”. Even if what that person wants is not as important to you as it is to them, being their cheerleader can help them overcome great obstacles. If they are doing the work necessary to reach their goal (despite how silly their goal may seem) if their goal is honorable, they deserve the chance to work to meet that goal.

In the movie, The Pursuit to Happyness, Chris Gardner felt this was very important to tell to his son. He told his son, “Don't ever let someone tell you that you can't do something….not even me.” Chris Gardner reached for the stars and he went after his goal and got it. Telling your loved one that they cannot do it, and making them feel like they cannot serves no purpose but to make the person who is telling this to the other person, feel better about them and feel superior.

Giving that special someone a pat on the back makes the people, you love feel important. If they want that better life and are willing to do the necessary work to achieve their goals, they deserve to have “the cheerleader” backing them up. In the end, they have the right to reach for their goal. You would want the same for you.
