To China with Love

Here are some thoughts on the mixing of cultures between China and Quebec.

Do Quebec Guys Like Asian Women?

One Asian girl asked me this perhaps because she had been approached but not often or perhaps because her own curiosity was peaked on the mix of cultures. We had been talking of very different ones and she had drawn a parallel between the Latin culture and the Chinese one towards North Americans.

I agreed on the parallel when it comes to the mixing which is not common anyway in this province. A lot has to do with the inability to communicate the same way but also because of appearances, the Asian woman might appear to be expressionless when it comes to a North American guy looking for some kind of emotional response to his courtship, some guys have admitted.

But that reaction is not across the board. I think that many North American guys will choose the Asian girl over the local one because she is outwardly calm and serene or because she appears to be less flamboyant than her American peers. Those of course would be Americans that want a girl they could supposedly influence She4 may be more easily approachable than the surfing blond or brunette on the beach or the sorority woman at the bar.

According to one Chinese girl, Koreans and Japanese are more flurtacious towards the American man, perhaps because of their exposure to them during the war and postwar periods.Chinese women are more traditional, so it is less common for a Chinese woman to want a serious relationship. Again a lot has to do with the different customs.

I did notice that many Asian women appeared more steel faced than others and was reminded that much had to do with with a North American experience or have been encouraged to express their emotions through facial muscles or by moving their eyes. One Chinese girl may even remind another of her facility in moving their eyes and averting a stare which we North Americans relate as avoiding a truth or not wanting confrontation. This may have been a subtle reprimand for her having lost out to an Quebec guy.

Apparently Chinese society still does not hold the movement of the female eye, during discourse, very well. So many Asian women coming to Canada, when applying their social measures will keep their pupils fixed forward. Among American guys this might also be considered as being poker faced, but the Asian woman has been instructed from a young age not to betray any weakness, and that does not mean they wish to appear two faced.

So, Asian women may be misunderstand by North American men as being deceitful and that is entirely not the case.Asian women may also not want to appear as objects to North American men who might just want to have an occasional fling and Asian men do not want to appear as objects for their Quebec sweethearts.

Maybe these factors, aside from language barriers and cultural differences, have to do with the relatively low number of successful matches between the two cultures compared to some others and the Chinese woman in particular made a parallel this match and that between Hispanics and White Quebecers.
