Why Women and Men Might Not Get Along

A little tongue-in-cheek relationship advice.

Disharmony

I used to have a very close friend who believed that Men and Women were not designed to co-habit. She thought that once the initial excitement and gloss had worn off a relationship, the inherent differences would surface and, increasingly, cause problems that potentially would lead to disharmony. The consequences were likely to result in separation.

At the time, I was divorced and about to re-marry. So, I knew a thing or two; or, so I thought ! However, despite my looming nuptials, I could see where she was coming from; my intended partner was becoming increasingly difficult to live with - we had co-habited for a number of years.

Do Men Understand Women?

The thing is, I believe that any man that claims to understand women is talking out of the top of his head. Even the most easy-going, friendly and loving women are given to the most bizarre mood-swings, the causes of which are completely indeterminate !

Oh, don't misjudge me, we've all learnt that hormones play a part and I don't underestimate that; not by any means. Yet, on the one hand we are taught to be considerate and understanding, when our partner is suffering; then when we are, we are told we are patronizing!

A False Sense of Security

Have you noticed how women lure men into a false sense of security?

One minute, you're really something, “Thank you for taking me out to dinner, it was really lovely!” Up on a pedestal you are, then bang! You're suddenly a piece of the proverbial excrement, brought in by some errant footwear.

The book "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" may give you some insight but, even then I wouldn't count on it! My advice is, don't bother trying to work it out. Just accept it.It isn't easy, mind you. Even now, I am not yet able to "just accept it". Maybe the lesson is in the advice given to me by my second wife - "don't try and understand, just love me!"

Do Women Understand Men?

So, do women understand men? I doubt it but, I wouldn't mind betting that they think they do. The perception is that the lovely Venusians consider that we Martians are all so shallow, emotionally retarded and weak, that we are incapable of resisting temptation.

Well, I have news for them; at least on the latter point anyway. It is a fallacy that all men are bound to cheat and, what's more, are unable to stop themselves. Besides, what "Men Are... etc." tells you is that when women say all or, always they are normally talking in the plural but, thinking in the singular!

Advice

The most amusing thing that women don't understand about men is sports and, in particular, teletext. They haven't been able to grasp just how important it is to watch your soccer team for 2 hours drawing 0-0 on teletext. You just have to do it! Go on, tell me I'm wrong, gentlemen!

My advice to you, ladies? Don't try and understand, just love us!

Okay, I enjoyed this, but isn't this just another example of a 'guy-thing'? Just kidding.

Clearly the more metrosexual we become there is less 'them and us' and just more 'everyone is different, just love each other'? Utopia anyone?

I recall that someone far more clever than I once said that true wisdom is not knowing everything but understanding that what you do know is almost nothing and accepting that. I would suggest that Sean has reached that acceptance stage.

Women are not real people!
They are not wired up correctly.

Except my mum of course!
