Why is It Wrong to Back Stab Someone?

I guess this topic will always get the hot seat anytime of the day. Backstabbing is something that I will never be proud of doing, should I am guilty of it.

Now, why is that so? Because it hurts like hell, or because you feel that the person that back stabs you is someone close to your heart, and in other words, you feel kind of betrayed? Which is it?

I guess the key factor here is "trust betrayed". Now, when someone back stabs you, they surely have said something vital that or something important which you have told them about certain things going on with in your life, or perhaps you have told them something about your relationship which you don't go around telling others. To suddenly find out that that person betrays you, and another person knows about what you have told that backstabbing person vital information, feels like you have been cheated as well. That's why to back stab someone is considered evil by some, or a bad attitude.

But some people find it fine, as they know that they are also guilty of doing that bad deed to others themselves. How do you draw the line between what's right or what's wrong about backstabbing? Now, to me, backstabbing is backstabbing. It will always be a bad thing. But, let's face it. Not all people have the courage to tell something bad about that person face to face, right? If your friend is behaving badly, and you need to tell her off but do not have the guts to, and you then pour your feelings out to another friend, saying that you do not know how to correct her, and indirectly, you have back stabbed that person by telling about her bad trait. I think backstabbing in this sense is still acceptable, as she is dealing something with she herself could not face up to tell off that person.

But the backstabbing becomes all wrong when a person makes it a point to back stab anyone she/he dislikes, and to gossip around behind that person's back. Trying to be sweet and nice in front of that person, but behind them, tells off all their secrets. Now, that is truly bad. And I think one should not waste time befriending with this type of person, and to distance themselves away.
