You Met Where?

Although internet dating sites might be very popular today, Cupid is still busy shooting his little arrow at unsuspecting people at the most unexpected time and in the strangest of places! It just goes to prove that you can run but you can't hide when Cupid gets you in his site!

I'm an observer of Life and a loser at love more times than I care to discuss. I'm also a hopeless romantic who can't help but watch from the sidelines, still picking up some pointers along the way. This is what got me to thinking about Cupid, and how he has got to be the hardest working little fellow there is. Oh, I know everyone thinks Cupid usually only works on Valentines Day, just like Santa works only on Christmas Eve, and the Easter Bunny works just on Easter. But Cupid shoots his tiny little arrows this way and that every day of the year, and I couldn't resist sharing some of his success stories I've learned about over time.

While Internet dating sites have virtually (no pun intended) taken over and run away with the traditional one-on-one dating scene, there are still some people who believe that bars and nightclubs are not the only places to go to meet prospective partners. After being around for a while (and being completely computer-illiterate), I've paid close attention to how this he-ing and she-ing game is played face-to-face.

The days of dim-witted pickup lines such as, “Hey, Beautiful, what's your sign?” and countless similar others have been dumped into a pathetic reject heap along with the 1970s polyester suits. Today, most people are far too sophisticated and intelligent to fall for such lameness. Today's couples still find each other in the strangest of ways and the strangest of places, lending proof that Cupid is hard at work every day of the year.

For instance, I like the couple who got into a minor auto accident with each other. She smashed into his shiny new Corvette. (He bought it to be a chick magnet.) After all the screaming and accusations, and insurance information was exchanged, somehow he ended up inviting her to dinner. She agreed. They're still together after two years. Oh, his Corvette? He now drives an SUV.

Another couple met in a daycare. He was a young widower running late after work. Although it was her first day at her new job, the obliging daycare worker said she'd stay with his son until he could get there. An hour late picking up his three-year old, the father couldn't apologize enough and offered her additional monetary compensation for her trouble. She refused. The next day, he sent the pretty girl flowers. They now have twins of their own.

At the Senior Community Center, an old man grumbled that he couldn't understand how the woman could play cards all day. She shot back complaining he was just a crotchety old man who didn't have anything better to do than to gripe about something that was none of his business. Within a year, they were married at the Senior Center.

And, it's amazing what you can find at Goodwill. A woman went in looking for good buys and literally bumped into a man, knocking his sunglasses to the ground. After the apologies, they found themselves talking easily. They each had grown children and after 25 years of marriage, each of them had a divorce under their belt. After Goodwill, they parted ways, but met again accidentally a few days later at a gas station. They exchanged phone numbers and went out that night. Despite their mutual agreement of not wanting to get involved and endure another broken heart, after several months, their story is still continuing.

The moral of this article? None, other than Love can be found in the strangest places and at the most unexpected time!
