Religion and the Workplace

Why ingratiating religion into the workplace is a really bad idea.

Nationwide there has been a sudden push to let religion, or more so priest and pastors, into the workplace. It is said to provide a source of spiritual assistance to those who require it. The thing is like many schools there are many different religions.

Are we to ambush every workplace with pastors, priests, shamans, Wiccan priest and priestesses, magic teachers, druid priests, monks of every style, and every other representation of every religion within that particular workplace just to provide spiritual guidance and comfort? Or are we simply only going to provide support for the more Christian like religions?

In today's world religion is a touchy subject because almost everyone believes that their religion is the only way to “heaven”, “enlightenment” or whatever good ending there is. So as with so many other differences of opinion this has led to murder, war, burnings, hangings and many other less pretty things.

Although it is still the same in some counties, in others, like America, it is no were near as bad. Yet when I heard a woman on TV say that if people didn't want to use the “office priest” that it would be made so that they would not be looked down upon just because they believe different, I laughed. I have experienced how some “Christians” treat those of us who are different. This is not to say that some of those who are “different” do not treat Christians with any animosity.

In fact some become so defensive that they don't leave room for the good Christians. I myself treat each of any religion, as that person deserves to be treated. In other words if they treat me well I will be nice as well. So why should we believe that this one Christian could vouch that all the other Christians will be so nice? Especially when they are told by the Bible that they are to show all the world that God is the only way, and there are so many that take that saying past the limit.

My though is why have priests or even religion in the workplace? That of course is unless that job is religion related. If people are having issues at work, maybe the employer should just get a therapist that is available anytime for the employees to talk to when they have stress about anything to do with work. If the stress is anything else then if the person chooses they can talk to his or her priest or whatever. Leave religion for church, home and personal time. I know there are many churches in my town that are available to anyone who needs help with the spirit, troubles at home or anything else you would want to ask a priest or religious leader.

So in the end, like with school and the government, maybe religion should just be kept separate from the workplace. Even, maybe to the point that if religion becomes more then just a discussion, there should be some for of reprimand or punishment that is equal for any that are discriminating wither they are Christian or of another religion.

Many times at work I have wished not to have religion brought up at all let alone pushed down my throat or a reason to fire me. Especially when the person who has tried to ram it down my throat turns around and says I was the one ramming. Things like this only get in the way of work, not make it easier, because there is someone more then willing to disobey and “hate” on those that don't believe like them. It will be a relief to all when work is just work and religion, of all kinds, stays out of it.

So let us further separate religious matters from life so that everyone of every walk of life can go their way otherwise the days of racism will look like play days if we let religion continue to rule every decision we make.
