Differences of beliefs amongst the world's varying religions have repeatedly sparked tensions amongst the followers of each. One such conflict is the conflict between the Indian Hindus and the Muslims of Asia. Through the expanses of time, it is clear that there is very little understanding between the two groups, and a great deal of contempt for each other.
The reasons for this hatred are clear and very apparent, but religious practice prevents these differences from being set aside. It is not clear when, if ever this problem is to be resolved.
First of all, Islam and Hinduism have a very different stance on statues. While the Hindus continue to create statues for their very numerous amount of gods and goddesses, the religion of Islam forbids the creation of statues, among other forms of artwork. In consequence, it is a holy duty for all faithful Muslims to destroy every idol or statue made to the gods and goddesses of the Hindu faith. After all, it was the Prophet Mohamed who broke down the first of the stone gods, so they feel they must follow in suite.
Moreover, countless Hindu temples are destroyed in Pakistan and Bangladesh, and yet the world does very little in response to the destruction. In addition, constant kidnapping, rape, and murder of Hindu men and women is an issue that has always persisted in these regions. After fifty years, the percentage of Hindus in Bangladesh has dropped to one third of what it had been.
The greatest symbolization of Muslim hostilities towards Hindus would be the Hindu Kush, an access way used my multiple foreign invaders. Millions of Hindus have died here, and many more will continue to die if something is not done. The exact number of deaths of Hindus by the name Hindu Kush is not available, but it can be speculated. This threat to the Hindu culture will not easily disappear.
Reflection: Taliban, Hindu Kush, and Hindu Genocide
It goes without saying that a great deal of Muslims have made violent attacks on Hindus throughout the ages. This is a problem that may never be stopped, but if it is at all possible, it would be an undertaking of monstrous difficulty. The best thing to do for the world to do in the face of these atrocities would be to unite and act beyond words upon these incidents.
Francois Gautier makes a very good point on why the Muslim people have such hate for the Hindu religion. First of all, artwork and statues are commonly used to depict the Hindu gods, something that is forbidden by Islam. Secondly, it is the fact that the Hindu faith supports the theory that millions of gods exist, instead the more traditional idea of one god, such as the Christians' Jesus, and the Buddhists' Buddha.
The results of these differences is shocking. Muslims have destroyed temples, sacked Hindu-owned shops, as well as killing and raping innocent victims. It goes without saying that Hindus are the number one enemy to the religion of the Islamic faith.
The Muslims of South Asia may always hate the Hindus, and something must be done to protect them. However, little is done by the Indian government to recognize these problems and act upon them. The government does not educate the children of the Hindu Kush genocide, even though the Jewish holocaust is taught to children in Germany as well as in Israel.
The government even went so far as to demand that the school texts of India be rewritten. It is even forbidden to characterize the medireview period as a time of conflict between Hindus and Muslims. The world must act in the defense of Hindus, but if India will not even protect its Hindu populace, how will the rest of the world react when asked to help, based on India's example? This article by Gautier was even refused by the Indian press, demonstrating the forceful censorship put in place by the Indian Government.
The fact that this article was printed before September 11, 2001, makes it even more sound statement. Gautier is proven right by the Muslims' readiness for aggression against the rest of the peoples of this world.
