Teacher (to several students): I've got a question today and wanna know if you guys have an answer. Do you guys think you can answer this for me? It's VERY important.
Students (together): Well I think so. Is it hard?
Teacher (chuckling and a pause): Well..........not this one. (Thinking to herself god I hope not!)
Students: Ok ask us this question.
Teacher: Well.....it has nothing to do with school. But I wanna know if you know the meaning to OBSESSION?
Boy 1: Can we use the dictionary? Why didn't you do that?
Teacher (to student 1):Well if I wanted an exact definition then I would go there. I am looking for a personal opinion.
Boy 2 (making a smart remark): Well I think it is a cologne that is sold at Dilliards. Its for men and women.
Teacher (to student 2): That's correct but not exactly what im looking for. Good answer.
Boy 1 (blurted out): Well im obsessed with transformers. Does that count?
Teacher (to student 1): That does count and next time raise your hand please. How obsessed would you say you are?
Boy 1 (hesitantly): Sorry for being rude. Well........my girlfriend calls me crazy for it. I have posters, toys, collectibles, clothes, and even bed sheets.
Teacher (to student1): Well I would say that is a bit obsessed. Not too be rude but your girlfriend could be right.
Boy 1 ( with funny look on face): Well I never really thought it was crazy.
Boy 2 (to student1): Dont mind me, but I gotta say it. If a transformer was real would you leave your girlfriend to be around it. Honestly?
Boy 1 (in reply): Well maybe.
Boy 2: Your crazy!!
Teacher (to both students): Enough. Now I wanna tell you my definition of the word.
(teacher sighing...... hoping this isn't gonna hurt student 1's feelings. But I got my own problems today. Screw his damn toys. He's an adult.)
Teacher (begins slowly): I have this friend that it having some problems with a guy that she dated. They dated for about 9 months and split up 2 times and the last time was final. She has moved on, and well he cant seem to get over her and let go of it all. He sends emails and text messages. Writes songs about her that are down right rude and still begs for that third chance.
Girl 1: Well quite frankly obsessed isn't the word for this guy. He needs to get over it and move on with his life and find a new girl to drive away. This is what my girls call stalker.
Teacher (mouth agape, in shock): Wow. That's a very clear answer. I never thought any of you guys would put that much thought into this. He just really misses her and she feels bad, but she wasn't happy.
Girl 2: I think she should give him a second chance. You know what they say 'third times the charm'. Why wasn't she happy?
Girl 1 (to girl 2): Are you crazy? If she gives him another chance she will be stuck with him and unhappy and end up there because she doesn't want to hurt him again. He may be worse that next time around and do something stupid to himself or maybe her. Have you ever heard to the Hollywood stalker that was obsessed with an actress?
Girl 2: I would give him a chance he seems sweet. But no I have never heard of him. What happened?
Boys 1 & 2 (together): Is this going anywhere? Oh pinch , poke you owe me a coke 1,2,3,4,
Teacher (interuppting): Enough!! We are adults. Listen to girl 1.
Girl 1: Thank you! Well he ended up stalking her. He found her house and went to go tell her he loved her and wanted to marry her. She thought him to be crazy, signed an autograph and slammed the door in his face. He then left for a while and came back with a letter professing his undying love for her. She came to the door scared. He handed her the letter, thinking she has to be with him or nobody will, then shot her. She died hours later.
Girl 2: Wow. Do you think your friends ex is capable of doing this?
Teacher (awed): God I hope not. Maybe he doesn't deserve a second chance or even friendship if he acts like this now.
Boy 1: I think this is the real meaning of obsession and obsession can drive a person crazy and hurt themselves or others.
Boy 2: Im not crazy over my transformers. It's now just a hobby and I would never leave my girlfriend for one. It was a joke.
Teacher: Now class I know that was a little off from our studies. But this is a creative wirting class. Now we are gonna do a free write. The topic is 'Obession' I want a full page free write about this. Do you understand what a free write is? It's just thoughts like a blog, making little sense. Dont worry about puncation or spelling. You have 30 mins left in class. Get started and I want them as you leave my class.
