Tantric sex focuses on the giving and receiving of quality pleasure and better communication during sexual experiences. It enables the couple to grow closer together over time, sexually and emotionally. With the promise of endless hours of love-making intensified by multiple orgasms, tantric sex has risen in many of our imaginations to the mystical ranks of Shaolin gongfu and sorcerer magic.
What is Tantric Sex?
The main difference between tantric sex and conventional sex is that the former focuses on the process of love-making while the latter is often focused on climaxing. The beauty of tantric sex is that it is not goal-oriented. Tantric sex is a dance of love itself, in which you learn to be in the sex act with full awareness.
Tantric sex also entails activating your sexual energy and aligning it with your partner's. It has got to do with the body's seven chakras or energy centres which run from the "root chakra" at the base of the spine (between the legs) to the "crown chakra" at the top of the head. Sexual energy flows through this channel of "chakras" when you are aroused. In conventional sex, when you climax, this energy is released from your body and fatigue sets in soon after.

Thus, breathing exercises are very important in tantric sex for individuals and couples. The individual exercises teach you to be more aware of your breathing while those for a couple teach you how to listen to your partner more attentively and be more sensitive to his or her feelings.
Tantric sex is really about breathing, relaxing, feeling and most importantly, honouring your partner during the sexual experience.
A Taste of Tantric Sex
For a taste of tantric sex, the exercise to "centre your sexual energy" is recommended. Called the Orgasmic Reflex Exercise, it mimics a reflexive movement that occurs when you are releasing sexual energy, most often experienced at the time of genital orgasm. It is a quick, involuntary contraction of the abdominal rectus muscle (otherwise known as the "abs") combined with an exhalation of breath.
The exercise helps loosen up your pelvic area and brings your energy and awareness to it. It can help women who have difficulty experiencing orgasm and men who have problems with impotence. Do this exercise for a few minutes a day. With practice, you will find it easier to do and reaps its benefits too.
The Orgasmic Reflex Exercise
Lie on your back with your knees bent and your arms relaxed at your side. Inhale as you tilt your pelvis down, which allows your lower back to arch up. As you exhale, rock your pelvis upwards so that your lower back touches the floor. Allow a wavelike, undulating movement to happen all the way up through your neck. Allow your legs and knees to open and close naturally. Practise this movement with the breathing until you don't have to think about doing it correctly.
While bringing your pelvis upwards, make a sound as you exhale. Again, the movement of the breath and the pelvis is: inhale/downwards, exhale/upwards (vocalised). To intensify the energy flow, consciously tighten your genital muscles as you bring them upwards and relax them as you bring your pelvis downwards.

Tantric sex lies in the philosophy of ancient Indian meditation and sexual beliefs. It is reputed to offer multiple orgasms to both men and women. Constant practice is supposed to help the couple keep their sexual energies within their bodies for a longer period of time. When this happens, they are able to extend the peak of their sexual ecstasy and the couple can experience multiple orgasms in one sexual encounter.
