Sexual Awareness

The risks involved when having unprotected sex.

Being sexually active means you have to be aware of the consequences. It pains me to think that many of you still choose to have unprotected sex when you are so aware of the possibilities. Sexually transmitted diseases are still a risk. Unwanted pregnancies are soaring, and you are stuck on stupid if you think it can't happen to you.

Case in point, Tanigua had a self-respect issue. Therefore every guy she dated sensed it and used it to their advantage. They first tell her all she wants to hear and then they get her to sleep with them. Being sexually active isn't a problem if you use every means necessary to protect yourself. Abstinence is okay, but if that is just not in you then that is why condoms are found in every major department and convenient store you walk into. In Taniqua's experience she trusted the wrong person and this individual in turn gave her herpes. She now has to live with a disease that she can't shake and since it comes and goes there is now a risk of her infecting other individuals. Taniqua is now angry and resentful for being so careless and now doesn't care if she infects others as she continues to have sex with suitors who are unaware she even has a disease.

Losing a few people I loved dearly to AIDS and knowing the other diseases that can be transmitted via sex has always scared me. It isn't easy for individuals to admit they have a disease for fear of losing that prospective partner or having people talk about them, but it just isn't fair to keep such pertinent information to yourself when you are indeed risking others.

Please think about your actions and think about the affects and changes you must now endure because you chose to be spontaneous and not careful. The person you are dating has a right to know you have a disease and a right to choose if they want to continue dating you. Being honest doesn't mean you won't find someone willing to love you or stand by you. Precautions and safe sex are a common issue and a practice we must all endure. There are many sites and pamphlets which can help you cope with what you have and therapists who can help you continue a happy and productive lifestyle. Seek them or it if necessary and keep in mind that just because you were a victim yourself it doesn't mean others should be a victim to you.
