The Sex Factor

Most sexually active adults think about sex several times per day. How sexual fantasy tends to enhance the sex life.

Have you ever had one of those days, you know the kind of day when everything you hear or see, seems to have some sort of sexual overtone to it? You walk in a room to hear half a conversation and it all sounds really shady, so you kind of back out slowly thinking you heard something you weren't supposed to. Then, when you hear what the conversation was actually about you turn blazing red because of what you were thinking when you only heard a part of it?

Does this type of thinking mean that you're some kind of sex crazed maniac? Well, in a word no. Over the years, there have been countless sex surveys taken (too many to name), of which, some have indicated that many sexually active men and women think about sex several times a day, the men more than the women. To be perfectly honest, in this media saturated existence in which we live, it is hard not to, most of what we do see or hear is sexual. When you open up a magazine, usually there will be an ad for something with a sexy young man or woman pitching it (as the saying goes, “sex sells”), there is nothing unusual about turning on the tube in the middle of the afternoon to a soap opera with people making out or hopping in the sack. It only makes sense that sex is a prevailing thought in society.

One of the other ways it occurs in thought is through fantasy. Sexual fantasy is a safe way for both sexes to explore their desires without the fear of being rejected or of hurting the feelings of a spouse or partner. Some couples will even discuss and act out their fantasies thus adding a new dimension to the intimacy level of the relationship. For those who are less likely to take to flights of fancy, there is pornography, it is not exclusively men who like to watch it either. The unnamed surveys have also indicated that women do watch it and that couples will watch together. There are even sex videos made to teach and enhance the sexual experience for couples as well as porn movies produced by women, and, targeted specifically at the female demographic. It seems that the whole issue has become less of a controversy and more of an advertising ploy in the last ten years or so.

Next time you find yourself indulging in some wild thoughts about sex, banish the guilt and just enjoy your fantasy, it is a perfectly normal, healthy behaviour. It may even make things just a bit more exciting for you and your partner.
