Apple's 4th generation iPod Nano was released in September 2008. Its style goes back to the 2nd generation design, but with the 3rd generation's screen. It is also thinner than both the 2nd and 3rd generations. The shell is curved aluminum and has a glass screen. The Nano also has the feature of the iPod Touch and iPhone, allowing the screen to switch between landscape and portrait view when the iPod is tilted left or right. The videos, however, are only playable in landscape view.
It also allows you to be able to switch songs by shaking the iPod and when a song is playing, and the iPod is tilted sideways, it lets you access the album covers. The iPod also has a voice recording feature which starts when an Apple compatible microphone is plugged in. It also includes the new "genius playlist creator", which was introduced on the same day. The Genius feature automatically creates playlists based on a selected song using an algorithm built by Apple. This generation is said to be the most environmentally friendly iPod ever made by Apple. It is shipped in glass cases like the 2nd generation model and is available in 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB sizes.
