The highly publicised Blackberry Storm is now here! There has been so much talk about it being the latest so called “I Phone Killer” Well has it lived up to the hype? Or is it just a a disappointing drizzle instead of a Storm?
For a seasoned Blackberry addict the Storm does take some getting used to, with the new “Clickthru” technology they have tried to combine touch screen technology with the feel of pressing an actual physical button. I found it very awkward and fiddly at first but then started to find it strangely satisfying. When it comes to typing text messages and browsing the web it can be very fiddly as the buttons in horizontal mode are too small and the buttons in vertical mode don't use the qwerty keypad. Therefore it is a case of using predictive text which can be very irritating.
Many have complained about the lack of Wifi with the Storm but that shouldn't be too much of a problem because Vodafone UK offer unlimited data packages all inclusive so you can surf the web without having to pay an extra fee every time you log on. Having said this though depending on how good the reception is the browsing experience can be somewhat slow but I think that with newer models Research in Motion will perfect this.
I love the applications on the Storm, with Google Maps, Facebook, YouTube and easy access to Myspace, in addition to this it has all the popular instant messaging facilities including ICQ, Aim and Msn, not to mention the highly addictive Blackberry messenger.
The usual Blackberry e mail retrieval system is included which is fantastic and so easy to set up, overall the phone is very user friendly, apart from the fact that it is quite heavy somewhat heavier than other models.
The sound quality is pretty damn good for both voice clarity and listening to music, it has a fantastic Vodafone music store which is very similar to I tunes and addition to this it has an extra socket where you can plug in your own headphones.
In general the Storm is a good effort from Research in Motion and I think I can see other companies copying the Clickthru technology. I do think that a few modifications need to be made for the next model and then we can really call it the “Perfect Storm”
