How to Use Zune to Listen to Audio books and Keep Your Place
I don’t know if you have ever wanted to play a audio book without losing my place every time on my Zune. At this time this is only possible with Audible (.AA) files, which is a real pain. So I set out to find a way to find a way to do this. I found out that all podcasts keep track of your positions when you watch or listen to them. So I thought I’d figure out how to make Zune think my audio books were podcast. At first I thought it would be as easy as putting them in the Podcast folder in the Zune folder, but it wasn’t that easy. Then I decided to look at the MP3 tag in an MP3 tag editing software, I found that all audio podcasts had the genre “Podcast”. Simple enough, so I just changed the audio books genre to “Podcast”, dragged it into the podcast folder, dragged it into the Zune software and it worked; easy as that. So below I have listed some more detailed directions:
1. Get your audio book and convert it to mp3 if necessary.
2. If you want you can use Audacity to cut the file into chapters. Save each chapter and Name it appropriately.
3. Get an mp3 tag editing software, some good freeware applications are MP3Tag or TagScanner.
4. Open your audio book mp3 in the tag editing program.
5. Make the title the title you would lie to appear on the Zune software, then make the genre podcast.
6. Put your audio book into a single folder with the name of the book.
7. Go to the Zune folder in “My Music”, then open up the podcast folder, and drag you audio boo folder into the podcast folder.
8. Open up the Zune software and drag the audio book folder into the artists in the music manager. It will then automatically recognize the files as a podcast and they will appear as a single podcast in the podcast manager.
9. Now connect your Zune and listen. Because the Zune thinks you are listening to a podcast it will save your place, allowing you to play the audio book from where you left off every time.
