When I look for a Christmas gift, I look for the latest in technology, gaming, and entertainment. but no matter what you get, there are some things you need to be aware of.

Computer
So you want to buy a computer for someone you know? There is a bit to Concern yourself with. Ram, hard drive space and operating system. For ram, you'll want as much as possible. Ram is necessary for process intensive programs like online games. Hard drive space will determine how much you can put on your computer. If your someone likes to "legally" backup movies, then you'll want a lot of space. For about $100 you can pick up 500gb external hard drive. Mine has works pretty well. last is the operating system. If you've heard horror stories about one operating system or other, it's a safe bet to stay a way from it. I'm looking at you Vista...

Digital Camera
If your giving a friend or loved one a digital camera, some of the key things to look for are megapixels, Stability, and Battery life. As a graphic designer, I want as many megapixels as I can get. That superior quality trumps file size any day. Stability is key as well. If your hands shake as much as mine do, you might think about getting something that has anti-shake or image stabilizers. Or at the very least, get a tripod with it. Lastly, battery life. My camera is a battery hog. it will suck a battery dry quickly, and usually during an important job.

Video Games
Know someone who loves World of Warcraft? Safe bet to go with another Role playing game. How about Grand Theft Auto? First person shooters are a good idea. match the kind of games they play with the kind you buy. just make sure the game you're giving out is age appropriate. Check the back of the box to make sure you're not giving your 10 year old child a game with hookers, drugs, sex and murder.

Now if you're considering buying a video game console, Think about the power/performance/reliability ratio. The Nintendo Wii is a great family console. The Wiimote takes playing to a whole new level, but it can't handle the graphics that a Sony PlayStation 3 can. But then again, the PS3 is such a power house, you can watch your houses electric bill skyrocket. Less with the Microsoft Xbox 360. But the 360 is infamously less reliable, with a 33% fail rate. So you've got your pick: power performance or reliability... or you could just buy a Nintendo DS!

Music
The same rules from video games apply to music. Match the type of music you would give to the personal tastes. Make sure you don't give your 10 year old a CD filled with gangster rap.

No matter what your thinking about buying, keeping in mind these basic tips and it will help ensure a Merry Christmas for all.
