Shopping Without Kids Running Amok
Online shopping is the best thing to ever happen to a parent.
Shopping is a harrowing experience when there are small children along.
- “Mommy, can I have that?”
- “Mommy, I'll be so good if I just can have this?”
- “But, Mom, why can't I have a Widget for $300?”
Parents hear this all the time.
Sometimes, a parent will end up with items in the shopping cart that they did not expect or even want to purchase. If there is more than one child, the parent has to be concerned more with what the children are getting into (and yes, even the best behaved children get into things) than with what is being purchased. Even younger children and babies will get bored while waiting around and start screaming; it's not their fault, but the parent will generally not be able to enjoy their shopping experience.
Will shopping ever be fun again?
Most of us don't want to wait 18 years until the kids move out of the house, before we go shopping. So, what can be done?
There is hope; a parent can use the power of the internet to bring some joy back into shopping, without the distraction of children. Today you can purchase that perfect gift or order dinner for tomorrow night, without leaving the house.
Is shopping online hard?
Online shopping is as easy as clicking your mouse. Just log on to a web site, there are many to choose from; large and small. The best way to find web sites catering to your desires is to use one of the search engines, like Yahoo or Google. You can type in either what you are looking for (i.e. Ipod) or a category like gifts for Easter. Once you find one, or twelve, just browse the pages.
When you find what you want, make your selection. Then proceed to the Checkout, no lines, no “impulse buys” or unwanted items. Most sites will want you to register with them; it is an easy way for them to know who you are, and to send you sale information. Register, and then choose your method of shipping. This will give you the total of your online order, tax, and shipping included.
The next entry would be your credit card number; this is done through a secure server. Which means it is safer than many department stores when it comes to using plastic. The last thing you would do is review the order, at this point you will have a chance to change it or even cancel it.
If all is well, submit it and voila, you're done. Within a few days, depending on the method of shipping chosen; your order is at your door step.
The online shopping experience allows you to leisurely select your item, even to shop for the best price and research different items, with no children to restrain no crowds and no lines. It has made shopping fun again.
Thank you from parents everywhere.
