The Restaurant

Passing moment between two people at a restaurant; an unfinished love.

He looks at her without any flicker of recognition. Had she really changed that much? Or has he merely moved on, unaffected by her internal beauty that radiates from her big brown eyes. No…he has found someone else to impress at the moment. A new toy if you will. It doesn’t make it any easier on her heart for she has carried him around with her on all her travels.

Instead of vying for his attention she tries to absorb herself into the conversations happening around her. There is a couple to her right on a date with the parents. The surrounding tables are filled with couples in love. There is one other loner there that night, a woman who is a glimpse of what the girl will become. She steals glances at the man who stole her heart all those years ago. Still he does not see her. This sick cycle in one that she has been on for years and she finally realizes it is time to let go.

For a split second their eyes meet and she catches her breath, maybe she shouldn’t let go. He looks away again into the eyes of his companion and she knows it is over. She finishes her glass of Chianti and asks the server for the check. It is the coward’s way out but it all she can do to not throw herself at him. She is done fooling herself when it comes to him. He is a beautiful package, slim, tall with piercing green eyes they color of the sea before a storm. The slicked back chestnut hair is too much with the olive complexion. What lies beneath is what she must run away from, deceit, mystery and a cruelty that no one should ever experience. However there was a time she kept going back for more.

**************************************************************

He can’t believe after all these years she can still take his breath away with a flash of her soulful eyes. It was all he could do to not run to her screaming don’t leave. He knew he had no right to her heart. He had blown his chance at happily ever after years ago. His date was oblivious to his obsession of the brunette that just walked in. She is beautiful without a doubt and completely unaware of it. Her raven hair and olive skin that sparkles gold, it makes a man look more than once.

When he caught the eye of the raven beauty he felt his chest constrict with the pain of what he had lost. He begged in that moment for her to still want him. He was willing to do anything to those eyes dance with adoration toward him. He was a selfish bastard, no doubt about that, but it didn’t stop him from wanting. He had no right to her; he knew how horribly he treated her.

Even with that knowledge, it didn’t change the need he felt for her. She made him want to be everything he was not. At the time he did nothing to deserve her love and when she left he knew it was because of everything he had done.

I think the only thing i dislike is the sense of being unfinished. But you've created two characters that seem so real thatit's virtually impossible not to feel their pain, their sorrow, and the tightness in the chest when you know it's over but you want so badly for it not to be.

I loved it, and i'm certain that many others will feel the same way.

Fantastic
