Education in Mumbai is very important. The schools there are either "municipal schools" run by the government or private schools run by a trust or individuals. The government run public schools lack many facilities but are the only option for poorer residents who can not afford the more expensive private schools. Students in Mumbai usually complete 10 years of schooling and then enroll for two years in Junior College. There they choice from one of three areas of study: the arts, commerce or science. This is followed by either a general degree program in a chosen field of study or a professional degree program, such as law, engineering, medicine etc.
The residents of Mumbai are not all work and no play. Cricket is the most popular sport in the city as well as the country of India. Football is the second most popular sport. Also, the game of Chess is a very popular indoor sport there.
Just like most places, the food in Mumbai is a rich cultural experience. Its foods and cuisines have been influenced by the rich but not too spicy styles of cooking from all over the country of India. Some of the unique specialities include Dhan Sak, Khicher, Minvela Curry and Curried Bombay Duck, just to name a few. Mumbai also has local roadside fast food. The city is dotted with several small restaurants that serve South Indian or Punjabi dishes.
The lifestyle in Mumbai is quite interesting. One could draw some simularities in their educational system and ours in the U.S. Like us their recreation and food help make for a more well rounded culture.
