From the beginning of time when the first group of humans walked on the earth so many millions of years ago, the strongest tribe conquered their weaker neighbors and showed them no mercy. They took all their possessions and subsequently killed or enslaved everyone in the group.
Even in more civilized times, many landowners and factory owners in all countries used their workers and slaves without regard to their welfare.
As some people became more educated they began to notice the inequity between the different classes and began to demand better conditions for those individuals who had no rights.
The earth is now at an important crossroad in itÂ’s history. In a nuclear age, we must think carefully which philosophy we want to follow. Will we follow the idea that the strong will continue to exploit and subdue the weak, leading to more poverty, continual war and possible complete annihilation, or will we begin to see that all men are entitled to live with security and dignity and begin to devise new ways to make this possible.
Already a few powerful men are beginning to try make a difference. Men like Bill Clinton, Ted Turner, Bill Gates and Sir Richard Branson are implementing ways to help all people regardless of country, race or religion to live better lives.
Let us hope that this will be a signal to other great hearted powerful individuals and to all leaders of powerful countries which will take us in a new direction, and which will give to all children a new chance for happiness and for hope.
