Do you own an exquisitely furnished house, with half a dozen sports cars parked outside and too much money to fit into a premium Swiss bank account? Could you be modern day miser?
The word miser makes most people think of fictional characters such as Silas Marner and Scruge; who stay up all night counting their money and arranging it into neat piles. But can that definition of the word miser still apply today in the modern world.
I believe a modern day miser would not hoard stacks of money but rather more materialistic objects. He would have the latest i-pod; a blackberry; original paintings worth millions; the top sports cars and maybe even a dozen holiday homes in the most sought after tourist resorts of the world.
A modern day miser would be extremely hard working; however I believe he would never let any aspect of his work out of the office and into his home apart from his wealth. He would have two different personalities, one at home which would be more relaxed and enjoyable and one at work which would be serious and hard working.
He would keep his money in premium interest rate bank accounts and would constantly be working to find ways out of paying tax. He would love his money but he wouldn't be bothered about spending it on living a luxury lifestyle.
He would have a small network of close friends, all well-off people. But also a prejudice against poorer people; who were not so interested in living a luxury lifestyle for the super-rich.
He would always be smartly dressed in the latest designer clothes and would believe that a smart appearance was key to his success.
This is my opinion on what a modern day miser would be like and what he would hoard and how he would live.
