Following a bout of boredom in the Christmas holiday I decided to do the only thing Welsh weather allowed me doing without drowning… a nice visit to the cinema.
Ten minutes before the film was due to start I was sitting comfortably in the screen room with my million pound popcorn when I was confronted with half an hour of adverts! NOT TRAILERS - ADVERTS. The same adverts I mute while watching the T.V to stop them corrupting my ears with all their nonsense. What an outrage. Has cinema really come to this?
The worst part was that nearly half of the adverts were advertising alcohol - at a 3pm viewing of a film certificated 15.
I find this disgraceful. Smoking gives you lung cancer, heart disease and all that jazz so they banned the adverts. Drinking however ruins your liver, changes the way you behave while under the influence of it and could kill you as much as smoking could. So what do they do, well of course make more adverts and show them at completely inappropriate times. For one, 15 year old don't drink alcohol. Oh wait….
But when society is dangling it in front of their faces every five minutes can you blame them for wanting in on the action?
So for the rest of the film I was in a bit of a foul mood in all honesty and it shall be a while before I decide emptying my student bank balance on the overpriced cinema is a good idea.
