If we all just stop judging people for what they look like or deciding that they are no longer worthwhile human beings because they have done things in their past that we ourselves could not contemplate we would find ourselves meeting some of the most amazing people on this earth.
If we were more open to new ideas and more willing to try new things we would have so much more life experience and being more receptive to new ideas we would become such a stronger, more intelligent and superior race.
Unfortunately, there are too many of us walking around with our head in the sand and in fear of the unknown. We look at someone with a different dress sense or haircut and label them a "freak" or "weirdo". We are so afraid of what this person might teach us that we walk the other way or put our head down and pretend not to see them. This is not to say that the man walking in and out of the high-rise city building dressed in a suit does not know anything about life and hardship but we are not afraid of this man because he looks the way that society says is "normal". What is "normal" anyway? One of my favourite lines is that "normal is boring". Because it is true. Its our differences that make us so unique and special and by meeting people and spending time with people with different beliefs and different ways of life we are constantly opening our eyes to the new ideas and infinite possibilities that this world has to offer us.
We are far to closed minded for our own good. There are some of us walking around; with the misconception that someone who was raised in a different manner is not as good a person. The first mistake these people make is believing that they are better than anyone else. In this country we were raised that we are all equal, no matter what age, race, or sex we are. But sadly it seems none of us live with this in mind. It is as though we strive on misery and find the pettiest excuses to put others down to help pick ourselves up. When will we learn that this is not the way we need to do it. To be a good person we do not need others underneath us, others less fortunate, less educated or less stylish, we must start from within and believe in ourselves. It is only then, once we know and believe in ourselves that we are worthy of a fulfilling life, a life full of happiness and love. Because it is only then that we have the courage to stand up and fight for what we believe in, ourselves.
To fight for anything and to win that fight we need an understanding of that issue, passion and strength. The understanding comes from research, the passion comes from what we believe and the strength comes from our own knowledge that we are a worthy human being. The power of the mind is our biggest asset and yet most of us choose to disregard it. You will often hear the phrase "you can achieve anything if you want it bad enough" most of us dismiss it as a line from a movie or something told to children at a sports carnival. If we only opened our eyes, our hearts and our minds we would see that this statement is one of the truest.
