Double Standards and Community Confidence

In public, coping with double standards can be one of the biggest problems. Many people don’t know how to manage with a situation that has arisen and a lot of people haven’t got the confidence to speak-up for fear that a problem could arise leading to confrontation. People living in the community and care often come across many of the prior problems, especially when disagreements and arguments arise.

A person can disagree with somebody in authority and the outcome is usually the same the majority of the time.  The party, who has the authority to say what goes, usually does.  Most people experience at least a couple of problems and a lot more serious and complicated ones also.  So people living and relying on support or benefits are usually more stubborn, quick tempered and often touchy.

Coping in the public eye and Family problems staying in the family

When people are living and coping with others with attitudes there are many areas to cover. The standard of problems which arise in the community and daily life are the problems people prefer to refer to as private for a variety of reasons. If family problems occur, many people find it easier to keep their family problems within the family. This can be based on a varied and also complicated number of subjects in a range of delicate areas. It is always easier to talk to a friend or a family member, rather than a person who is unknown or known on a professional level. There are certain issues that are just not raised or discussed with certain people. “Let's face it”, if the boot was on the other foot and somebody in authority, such as a carer or social worker had to reveal all that was going on in their private life, or certain problems of a confidential nature to a mere onlooker or resident. “Could they manage?” It could be said, “Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time.”

Prejudice issues and Tags & Labels

A varied number of people with or at different levels and stages of basic, mental or physical health still have to cope with the stress and strain of managing an amount of independent living also, especially with areas of such a varied scale. The levels and stages that a person is classed at, in just the basic categories such as mental and physical health, usually dictates how much independence a person will be privileged or allowed to manage in basic daily life. Remembering that all the people involved are people with a varied range of feelings and can be affected like any other people. Prejudice is one for the books. All people can be different in any shape or form and out come the tags and labels. There are a variety of reasons such as race, religion and sexual preferences that are usually the three main causes of this problem arising and there is a large majority that will agree “Tags are for animals, labels are for jars and neither is for people”.

Wary of the Unknown and Because People Differ, Do they have to Suffer?

Mistrust and fear of the unknown are what people are usually most wary of, the majority of people find it difficult to cope with what they either don't understand or can't explain. Just because a person is different in some way, it doesn't mean they don't have the same needs, feelings and emotions as the next person. It has been stated, “That Labels are for Jars and not for People, so don't label me I'm a person to!” and just because I differ in some way or another does this mean that my lifestyle should or will have to suffer because of this also. So if the public's attitude doesn't change at some stage people will always be prejudice of what they don't understand, are wary of or the unknown and because of this people with a difference of some sort will always have to suffer.

Basic Stress & Strain and Daily Actions and Emotions

Prejudice can come in many shapes or forms, appearing in friends, colleagues or even within the family. The three main causes are usually race, religion and sexual preferences. This is a constant and ongoing problem shared and endured by just about everybody. You don't need a disability to fit this category, as it applies to everybody and anybody who are either at risk or vulnerable as a whole. The stress and strain that all people suffer in general daily life can be compiled of varied types of prejudice and a number of ways in which people choose to express or cope with them. In lay-mans terms, if somebody has a grievance and wants to make a point about it the majority of options are few and far between when resolving a problem and a truce is rarely sort after. Usually people relying on support of one sort or another can and do cope, especially when faced with very few options and forced or provoked into numerous situations which often lead to confrontations.
