How long have you gone without eating? Half a day? A whole day? Three days while you were in the hospital? Now be honest with yourself, how often do you actually feel hunger in your belly? Not pscyhological hunger, but physiological hunger. Most people don't feel it that often. Our society is so conditioned to eat at regular intervals throughout the day we often don't notice whether or not we are really hungry.
Consider the following:
-For every time in your life that you have overeaten - meaning you ate until you were uncomfortably full - have you undereaten the same number of times? If you haven't, doesn't it make sense for you to be overweight?
-Is food often at the center of celebratory events? Birthdays, holidays, parties? Can you imagine going for months without having a festivity centered around food? Perhaps our society is so food oriented that other forms of self-entertainment such a board games, music, dancing, and chatting have taken a backseat.
-Can you imagine a fulfilling life without consuming your favorite foods and dishes on a regular basis? Would you sacrifice the enjoyment food gives you for spiritual fulfillment? Have you ever thought about fasting?
These comments weren't meant to shock you or persuade you to change your lifestyle. It is important to know where your priorities lie, and how you feel about yourself with respect to food, diet, and your lifestyle. And take note, being overly dependent on anything is unhealthy, whether it be food, the Internet, friendship, or money.
