When looking at our society as a whole, we are so deeply connected to nature and the earth's resources that we could not exist without them. However, we have an obligation to be responsible patrons of the earth.
Because our society is very large, with that comes an equally large necessity for natural resources. Although we have a need to use these resources, we must be responsible about it. We only have one earth to support life. If we pollute, destroy or damage it we are harming nobody but ourselves. As we deplete our limited supply of natural resources, we must be constantly developing ways of replenishing it or reducing our footprint left behind on the earth.
Our nation, the United States of America, should take additional steps to reduce pollution and the negligent use of the earth's resources. Because we as a nation are the highest emitters of greenhouse gasses by percentage, we must then take a higher amount of accountability. We must work to establish tighter regulations and policies on the reduction of pollution. Also, we need to take part in treaties working to reduce global pollution such as the Kyoto Protocol, which we are not currently signatories of.
Although we might be just one nation, we are a global superpower with great international influence. Because of this, we must always be supportive of new movements to reduce pollution and maintain the earth's condition. An example must be set and as a world leader, we must be the ones to set it. Currently, pollution and preserving the environment is not at the top of the United States' agenda. We as citizens of the United States should vote to elect people who will represent both us and the earth with care.
The earth's resources are critical to the survival of our society, and while it is necessary to use them, there has to be a limit. We should be able to use the environment as long as there are safeguards and regulations to ensure that there will be limited or no pollution. The earth is our provider and we have to respect that and treat it with care.
