Sex in Comedies: The New Epidemic

It's getting much harder to censor sex as it appears in our news, our media, and is an influence in everything we do. It's being exposed to our children.

Sex is a natural and healthy aspect of every relationship but is the public becoming too obsessed with sex? It seems to be that sex is showing up everywhere in our lives. There used to be a time when a family could turn on the television and not have to worry about ratings, or if the children were in the room. Today it seems like sex is appearing more and more often on our television. Has sex become that much a part of our lives that it now must be apparent in everything we do? Is television the new way to fulfill our sex interest?

Somehow it seems that sex has found a way to sneak into even the most harmless thing; television. Producers find a way through comedies to implant sex into the show in some shape or form. Many television comedies use sex in a humorous manner. In doing so, are these comedies taking away from the beauty of sex? What happened to sex being a private thing between a man and a woman? Producers not only exploit sex in these comedies, but also find a way to use this material in every episode.

Sex is slowly becoming an epidemic in television and it is likely to become even more sex oriented as the year's progress. Even cartoons have found ways to integrate sex into their show, usually by means of sexual innuendos. No matter where we go, or what station we turn to, sex is apparent in some form. These comedy shows broadcast all over the world to millions of viewers daily and along with humorous stories, and scheming plots, comedies are letting millions of people view sex, or at least the subject of sex. Yet these comedies are not rated for mature audiences; many are family oriented films. With this is mind it is slowly getting harder to turn on a television station and watch a family program.

There are people who might say,” turn the television off then”, and they are right in some way. I suppose as the viewer we could simply shut off our television every time a show portrays sex, but if that was the case the population would never get to watch television again.

Rather or not producers should be allowed to place sex in these shows is not the issue here. The underlying issue is the fact that we as the public seem to think sex is something we should parade around on television. What ever happened to sex being something special two people in love share? What happened to g-rated family comedy shows? Better yet, what will the future generation be like if they are subjected to sex most of the day?

Sex in television is sure to spark an increased interest in sex in the future generation. Truthfully that is a scary thought to think of. The current population is already incredibly open about sex and their sexuality, and now we are adding sex comedies to the mix. I honestly believe this type of openness about sex will make future generations have two choices. The viewers can either speak out against sex being everywhere or can fall into the trap of believing sex is okay to flaunt on television. In the end I think it is safe to believe, being exposed to sex this much is sure to add increased thought and pressure on our already raging hormones.
