Socially Screwed

Do you believe that we as black people work together to flourish as a society of healthy habits and compassionate hearts? No, we behave like animals constantly killing each other for simple things, which could have been resolved without violence.

We have to focus on laws of functionalism, conflict theory and symbolic interaction to understand what we mean as a race, a society and impacts we make on economy.

Functionalism concentrates on the contributions (functions) performed by each part of a society. Therefore, black people as a society have a huge impact on economic and religious aspects of our world.

Everyday we consume food for survival and by doing so we contribute to the profitable margins of businesses in our society. We may not think this activity is of any significance because we may be spending only a dollar but that dollar becomes millions in time. Our economy is able to flourish providing goods and services for everyone because of our contributions we consider small but if we continue to kill each other would it continue to flourish?

Why is it that we as black people are usually conflicting in spirit, competing and slaughtering our peers? The conflict theory offers a logical explanation to why we exhibit these behaviors. The conflict theory emphasizes conflict, competition, change and constraint within a society.

I believe that everyone is born without hatred in his or her heart but we are conditioned in ways sometimes causing negative skews that causes us to conflict with others. These conditionings can even cause us to conflict with people of our social circles sometimes resulting in killing. These acts are known as black on black and white on white crimes. What does this say about us? We have self-hatred.

It is said that when people see black men walking down the street versus white men people automatically associate the black men with violence. Is this image the image we want to project, that people may fear us without even getting the chance to know us? The image we are known by is disgraceful and I hope we realize that time is change so we need to change this image.

A question that is commonly asked amongst many of my friends who happen to be black is, “do black people exhibit constraint in regards to immediate gratification?” Well some of us do but the image others see looking through these foggy valleys is so gloomy and portrays an image of an uncontrollable desire for immediate gratification. That is why it is essential for us to realize that we are like the popular quote, “All for one, one for all.”

Universally known symbolic interactions account for certain behaviors we may communicate with others using, like holding two finger up in the air meaning peace. There are a lot of signs and symbols that we attribute from our cultures and use in our day-to-day living. These signs and symbols help us to communicate without everything being verbal. Scientist have noted that 67% of a conversation is body gestures (body language). So the next time you are in a conversation with someone pay attention to their body language because they could be saying one thing to you but their body is saying, shut up.

We live in a world were rules, regulations and systems provide a safer environment for us and we need to embrace our roles in society as a people. If we take up our roles in society, we will flourish economically, socially and as a society. We also need to love ourselves so we can love others because if you do not love yourself then it is impossible to love anyone else.

One thing I would like you to remember the next time your about to commit a deviant act is, we are like a drop of water in an ocean present but all one.

There are a large amount of factors, Education, Job Availability, and the subconscious recognition that everyone is doing it.

The fact is a white person put in the same situation would end up doing the same things.

Even though I'm white, I found your thoughts on behavior very interesting. :)

I am Chinese. I find that many are afraid of the unknown especially if they are not open to changes.
