There are many misconceptions about tattoos and the people that have them. People look at tattoos as taboo and questionable. Tattoos are viewed as a sign of rebellion and sometimes even viewed as having evil connotation and trashy. Tattoos aren't about rebelling, showing discontent or disrespect. They are about expression, and art. Tattooists are artists. It takes a lot of hard work, time and concentration to create a good tattoo.
Tattoos are a form of expressing one's individuality. Some people get a tattoo as a remembrance of a loved one, a way of gaining closure in death. Others get “inked” to express their strong faith with a cross or other religious symbol. Some cultures tattoos are a rite of passage. In Egypt, Christians get tattoos of a cross on their wrist to denote themselves as a minority.
Sometimes women with a tattoo on the small of her back are viewed as a slut or “easy”, but of course that is not the case. Someone can't—no shouldn't be labeled as anything simply because they have a tattoo or even piercing. Tattoos and the people who have them shouldn't be regarded differently than anyone else. Just because a person has tattoos and/or piercing doesn't make them a “freak”, “weird,” or anything else.
