Ever wonder what China's population actual is? It's not just “like a billion”, by the way.
China… obviously. With 1.3 billion people, China has the highest population in the world. This nation has so many people, the government has actually urged people to stop having children.
India has over 1.1 billion people, making it the second most populated country in the world. Surprisingly, by following the growth rate of China and India, it is assumed India will actually surpass China as the world's most populated nation. It's estimated by 2050, they will have over 1.6 billion.
U.S.A. We might be over a billion people behind China, but we rank as the third most populated country in the world. With approx. 300 million people, we make up around 5% of the world's total population.
This next country has some controversy concerning it, mainly because it is very difficult to determine the actual population. Indonesia has so many islands, we will never know their exact population, but the main islands of Indonesia have a population of 230 million, making it the 4th most populated nation.
One of the largest countries in the world, and the only one from South America that tops the list, Brazil has a population estimated at 190 million people.
A close neighbor to India, Pakistan finds it's place as the 6th most populated country on the planet, and also has the second largest Muslim population. This nation was officially formed in 1947, and was later renamed the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in the 1950's.
Bangladesh is also in the same region as India and Pakistan, and officially declared it's independence from Pakistan in 1971 with the help of India and the Soviet Union. Their population is estimated at over 150 million people. Pakistan and Bangladesh share the title for the highest population growth of any nation, topping the charts with 2.6%. This may not sound like much, but it means that by 2050, the population of Bangladesh will increase to over 200 million.
The largest official country in the world, Russia tops the list with an estimated 140 million people. With the lowest growth rate of all the countries on the top ten list, Russia is actually expected to lose a portion of their population by 2050.
The only country on the list from Africa, Nigeria is 9th on the list with 135 million. Also one of the oldest inhabited places on the planet, their history dates back to 9000 B.C.! There is an unapproved census, dated from 2006, that lists the population at 140 million, which would make Nigeria tied for the 8th most populated country in the world.
The smallest nation on the list, Japan's population is estimated at 125 million people. The country is actually made up of over 3000 islands, many of which are volcanic and uninhabitable. People in Japan have dated back to pre-historic times, some of whom lived around 30,000 years ago.
