The 5th Commandment

Blessings fall upon the one who honors their parents and people of authority.

Honor is a time of giving. God is dedicated to bless the child who honors his or her parents. When you honor your parents you are hollowing them. There is a civic duty in this commandment in which one must honor and respect the people who came before you. They have experienced the world and have had their share of tribulations.

You are giving them grace because they are the ones who spent time caring for you at your tender age. You should not forget your past time during life. Respect the ones who cared for you. This simple commandment goes for everyone in authority over you. It also implies that you should give respect to your leaders in government, your teachers, pastors, doctors, lawyers, policemen, firefighters, husband, wives, brothers, sisters, etc. as they are the ones who represent you in society.

You should also listen to your parents. When you listen to them and follow their direction, you have taken the stance to better yourself. Bear in mind, they have already experienced life and have made their share of errors. Your parents can only teach you the truth from their experiences. The truth will pass from generations to generations and that is what will make the world a better place for the next generation.

This commandment also fulfills the golden rule… love thy neighbor as thyself. God will extend your stay on earth so you can enjoy a good life and live to see grandchildren and great grandchildren. God is so pleased whenever His little children obey His commandments that He will go beyond to bless them.

It pleases God when you obey your parents. The purpose of obedience is doing the right things. Your parents are given so much authority because God designed it for them to be your parents. The smartest move you can make in life is obeying their commands. Just as God made His commands, so are your parents as they are representative figures of God to you. God uses them in your life to give you direction. For you to prosper, you must obey them.

You must also trust your parents. If your parents are living according to the words of God, you can trust them. They will not lead you down the wrong path. Even though they have made mistakes during their lives, they can only lead you to the truth. Parents also love their children and want the best for them. Trust them on the things they ask you to do.

God has a plan for you if you respect, obey, trust, and follow the directions of your parents. He will bring His plan in place for you. Whenever you walk in obedience to your parent's directions, you are walking in obedience to God's words. The parent who truly deserves your honor is God. If you love God, you should have no problem honoring your parents.

For the parent to be deserving of this simple commandment is one who does what is right to their children. Parents are to be cautious not to have any of their children stumble. It is best not to impose any unwelcome lifestyle around your children because they will have to face life on their own when they are grown. And, you do not want them to have problems

As parents, our moral duty is to present a picture of God to your children. We should teach them at a young age what God deserves from them. The nuclear family life is what is needed for them to succeed. This is the purpose of God for a family life. Parents must also be kind, gentle, and compassionate towards their children. If you want your children to honor you, be honorable. Amen.
