Traffic lights were created to help ease the problems of commuters. So that there will be order among them. It was also created to lessen the burden of traffic police. That instead of them, traffic lights make the way easier for commuters, now with traffic lights, what they only need to do is watched out for those who violated traffic rules. The green, orange and red lights dictate when not to go or when to go. Well, that is my understanding of their usage.
That was then. When I work here in one of prominent cities of Metro Manila I found out that is not always the case. There is a particular road in here that traffic lights become useless. From morning to five in the afternoon traffic lights is of full usage. But when six "o clock comes that is when you started to doubt what they install those traffic lights for. The traffic police started running the traffic. In my opinion it"s because a political figure from that city don't want commuters going out of the city to be caught in heavy traffic. That is definitely a good reason for it.
But the problem is we, the people who walk our way home finds it difficult to cross the streets because we don't understand anymore whom to follow. Though the assurance that the traffic police are there and they are motioning you to cross the street still, the fear is there because some cars just cross the streets because they could definitely see that the lights are telling them to go. I am one of them, and mind me telling you buses and big cars cross that road. That is the reason it is always the location for hit and run victims.
Well, I am writing this in response to my frustration in the case. I really don't know if it will change. Besides, we Filipinos are known to be easily capable of adjusting to any situation there is. Maybe in time we get used to it. Well, I just hope we get used to it and there will be no more accidents before that.
