Urbanisation

Many of us think as urbanisation is nothing but the development of villages, into cities but it's something else.

The rural settlements differ from urban ones in terms of size and functions. The basic functions of the rural settlements are the primary activities such as farming and forestry. on the other hand, the dominant functions of the urban settlements are secondary and teritary activities. though it is not the rule, but most of the settlements orginate as rural settlementsto utilise the primary resources of an area. With passage of time they grow in size and assume a multiplicity of functions. thus, the rural settlements are transformed into urban ones. the process of transformation of settlements from rural to urban is called urbanisation. this change implies modifications not only in the occupations of the people but also changes in the land use.

The urbanisation growth rate at present is 25.70% and is increasing. employment oppurtunity, industrialisation, education and modernisation of technology takes place due to urbanisation, which indirectly improves the economy of the country.

There is a need to check unplanned urbanisation and to improve the public amenities in the existing cities to improve the quality of life in the urban areas. Only then urban areas act as catalysts for the economic development of the country.

Makes sense. I\'ve heard that, recently, the population percentage living in urban areas has exceeded that of rural spaces... It is a bit scary, but what can we do....
Yet these urbanized areas, as you said, improve the economy, but some of those zones arent even lived in, just used for economic industrial uses. (think of Silicon valley...)
