Teenagers

An antidote to the problems that beset the young people of today.

“Years ago, five years to be exact, I was invited by my student to go to their house to attend a party. When I got there, she introduced me to her grandmother as her teacher. Her grandma was surprised to know it because she thought I was still a teenager.

How I wished I were a teenager. How I love to bring back those memories of my teenage life; the thrills of discovery and curiosity, and the joys of having friends. That was then. It's quite a different story when you are a teenager now.

Day in and day out, young people of today are bombarded with drastic changes, new technological breakthroughs, family and societal problems, and moral dilemmas to name a few not to mention those unresolved childhood issues. Before they get to realize they have to live their normal teenage life, they run out of TIME trying to keep apace with the fast changing world. They get inflicted with disappointment, frustration, addiction, and alienation. These further lead to the degeneration of morality, loss of self-esteem, deviation from societal norms, and other harbingers of juvenile delinquency.

While some manage to keep abreast and cope with the challenges, most tend to fail. They let themselves vulnerable targets of and get immune to the existing system…and get bogged down.

How do we get these young people back to life? How do we give them back what was robbed from them?

They ran out of time so we have to give them TIME. Enough time to pick up their shattered dreams and redirect themselves to their ultimate goal of existence, to convince them they have worth, to let them feel they are loved, and to make them realize they are capable of achieving great feats not only for themselves, for their families but for the whole world as well.

Dedicated to my students, then and now. I hope I have made you feel understood (BES, BCC, BSI).
