Why People are Obsessed with Technology

Humanity, as a whole, has always been intrigued by new concepts and inventions. We, as a species, love to test new theories and create better methods of completing tasks. We are obsessed with technology and making our lives simpler and easier.

Humanity, as a whole, has always been intrigued by new concepts and inventions. We, as a species, love to test new theories and create better methods of completing tasks. We are obsessed with technology and making our lives simpler and easier.

The technology of the twenty-first century is rapidly moving forward. With every new year, there is a new computer, television, processor, or car. Each of these are always accompanies with new features not seen in previous models. These new features make using these devices simpler and more user-friendly.

Humans are infatuated with new features as well. We have deluded ourselves into believing that they are necessary for everyday life. We think our cars must have a CD player, our computer must be immeasurably fast, and our television must be high-definition. Why is this?

We are the epitome of the evolutionary chain. We are able to think “outside of the box.” We can observe something and visualize how to make it better. We can imagine how to make it easier. We even have the ability to create a machine that will do tasks for us, such as washing dishes. The idea that actual work can be done with minimal strain on the person doing it is one of the main factors in our obsession with technological growth and development.

Another factor in our obsession is the media. Commercials, movies, and television shows constantly flaunt their superior technology and “cool” gadgets. They show the latest technology and act as if its superiority makes it a “must-have.” The media is the driving force behind our obsession with technology.

Obsession can be defined as a compulsion towards objects, people, or activities. Our obsession with technology perfectly crystallizes this definition. We are obsessed with gadgets, using them, and the people who make them. We are obsessed with them because they make our lives easier. We are obsessed with the media dangles in front of us. Technology is an obsession that is easily dismissed as a fancy, but it has deep roots in our society. Technology will continue to be obsessed over, and the media's placement and simplicity of it are the reasons why.
