Bet You are Not a Racist

As human beings, we have more in common than not. If we look for similarities in others, we would have harmony.

If we realize that we have many things in common, we will be kinder and gentler toward others. After all, human beings are just that, human beings. Don't look for the differences in people, look for similarities.

We have five senses

As humans, we have five senses: touching, seeing, tasting, smelling, and hearing. It doesn't matter what color we are, we have these in common.

We have faith

In this area, since we have different colors skin, we have different kind of Gods, or worship rituals, but we believe in higher power. We also believe in what is right and what is wrong.

We enjoy music

If you listen to music through the “old” radio, do you wonder what color skin the singer has? You just know your heart and mind merge into the beat and the lyrics you hear. Can you tell the different colors skin in music? Do you really care about it?

We love movies

Look around the theatre, many different people sit in the same room, enjoyed watching the movie in which there were a mixed of colors. We share the same love for good movies despite who were in them.

We enjoy sports

From basketball, to football, to baseball, to soccer, there are a collection of talented players. We all enjoy watching them perform. In our minds, we admire their abilities to bring an exciting game to us, without a thought on their skin colors.

We like nature

When we see a beautiful sky, a star, or moon, and majestic view of nature, we are at awe and marvel at the creation. We go through the same emotional feelings, no matter what color we are.

We have basic needs

Our basic needs for shelter, food, and comfort are what tied us together in this human race. We all need a home, food to eat, and feel loved. Our survival instinct defines our existence.

We want the same thing

We all want world peace, a good life, and are good people. Have you ever known a person who doesn't want peace or a good life, and be a good person?

We have the same constitution rights

We want freedom, and we want individual rights. We need to express our own taste, like and dislike as a person. We have the right to vote for whom we want to represent us, and lead our country. (Yes, I know, only citizens can vote!)

We are hooked on technologies

We share the same fascination for cell phones, computers, MP3, iPod, laptops, Xbox, Play Stations, etc. They are what connect us together from all over the world. With these technologies, we can talk to people from different countries as though we are talking to our neighbors.

See? You are not really a racist if you take a hard look at these ten reasons. We have more in common than not. At times, we choose to act tough for the sake's of arguments or show our dark sides. However, we are basically good people with acceptance, understanding, and caring deep in our human beings.

I agree with you totally Icy. Here in UK we have the same problems which are, I think, mostly born of ignorance.

You're quite right Icy. We really do all have more similarities than differences, and if we focused on the similarities it would be a more harmonious world.

Yes...and I always like to say: "We are all of the human RACE." We are just from different locations and therefore of different ethnicities.

Blessings to you.

Sincerely,

-Liane Schmidt.

Catagorigizing is not good, again it usually starts at home. Well said, "We are all of the human race." Well written article!

You are certainly right. We are basicly the same regardless of the color of our skin. I agree with you perfectly.

Hey, you are such a good writer. This is a beautiful, thoughtful written piece on human sociology, the essence of all our being. Thank you so much for the enlightenment.

Icy, I totally agree with you. There will be no war, no quarelling, no racism, no fighting, no discrimination and etc. if each of us employ these principles in our life. You've been a good speaker for me too. I do experience the condition being labelled as "strange alien" at Triond as I'm a non-English speaking's author. These experiences really hurt. In most cases, people will read the articles by identifying whether he or she is a native speaker or none. Some articles from Asian will be ignored as they think we are "low standard", "low education" and "low quality" as compared to the authors from the Western countries which they label as "high quality", "high education" and "high standard." In this sense, how do we don't have war? How can our world becomes peace just because of different perceptions and ideologies?
Thanks and take care!
