So Called Heroes

Hero. This is a mere word, tainted by society.

Heroes. Who are they? Are they the random person that's willing to step over the line to help a man in need? Are they the men and women doing the abysmal jobs that no one, not even illegal immigrants will do? Are these "so called heroes" people like Simon Birch? Do heroes even exist at all?

Hero, or anti-hero? In this day and age, anybody can be called a hero. And by anybody, I mean anybody. A rapist who never saw the light of justice can be called a hero. A gang member can be called a hero. Hell, so can a murderer. All because of one action. We call people a hero without bothering to think twice. Again. Hero? Or anti-hero?

If anybody can be called a hero, how many "so called heroes" will there have been when this planet dies? No longer is a hero rare. A hero would have been as common as dirt. No longer are there any true heroes. No longer…

Being called a hero was once an honor, before we, as meager little humans, tainted the word "hero". No, "hero" doesn't mean shit. It was once exclusive. Once… Those days when an elite few could be considered heroes are gone, just like a chance not taken.

Hero. A hero is a breed. A breed long gone. True heroes used to walk this damned planet. Used to. Hell, true heroes no longer exist. A "so called hero" is a paltry little image planted in our subconscious mind. Sadly, the subconscious is a state in which reality is just a visitor. Alas, the true reality about heroes seldom visits our subconscious mind, thus leaving us believing in a lie…
