As I was walking through some nearby woods, a question entered my head. In this great balancing act that is life, which element will you choose to be your teacher? After some heavy contemplation, my choice became apparent. Rock is old and strong, as well as unyielding. However, rock is bitter, rock is linear, it understands only mere existence. Rock can not give life. It suffers a violent creation and a violent demise. It is incapable of change, unless an outside force smashes it or wears it away.
Most importantly, rock can not take a different form by it's own will. It remains one shape, one texture; until the end of it's days. Water, however, is just the opposite. Water is adaptive and fluid in motion. It is capable of profound devastation, yet it is the creator of all life as we know it.
Water is beautiful, tireless, and because it has no real beginning or end, it is fearless. Water is not a prisoner of form, if you pour water into a cup, it becomes the cup. Water is its own master, yet it is selfless in the nourishment of all living things. So, in conclusion, the answer is quite simple to me. A child can teach you how to laugh, a bird can tech you how to sing, but water can teach you how to live.
