Pinoy is what we call ourselves, the Filipinos. There are lots of Filipinos abroad and some are even breed there. But no matter where we go we have distinct customs and traditions that separate us from others. Things that are all our own.
For instance, our fondness for foods that other race might find un-hygienic. Salted fish or bagoong. I love to include that in my meal. Others might find the smell offensive but it's a great appetizer. We also have the balut or duck's egg. It's sold in the street. It's boiled and you can actually eat the chick inside. Just dip it in spicy vinegar and salt and you're good to go.
Filipino families are generally large. Some sons and daughters still live at home even if they're already married and have kids. This is not really unusual for us especially if the couples are just starting up and can't support themselves yet. Some just stay forever until their own kids get married and live with them again.
There's also our fondness for gossiping. As early as morning, we'd go visit our neighbors to talk about anything under the sun especially about our other neighbor's lives. We just can't seem to get rid of this habit. Especially in provinces where life is slow and there's not much action happening around.
A lot of Filipinos want to go abroad. They say that life here doesn't offer much to give them good future. Despite this when they get to their destination they can't help feeling nostalgic and homesick cause Philippines will always be home and that thing that's purely pinoy will always be in our hearts.
