Netsilik and Polynesian Peoples

How the modern world has affected these ancient cultures.

The Netsilik and Polynesian peoples have, for millennia, gone with out contact from the major countries of the world. In the past two centuries, adventures have thoroughly searched and have discovered almost all land masses. The Polynesian islands were hot sellers, soon claimed despite the fact natives already inhabited them. The artic circle held no value, so the Netsilik stayed independent. Both of these traditional cultures have been subjected to the modern world and are now on the brink of a major decision: “whether to hold back or to dive right in?”

These two cultures before modern intervention were sustainable and unknown to the modern world. The Polynesians need to shed many traditions because major counties want their lands' resources and the islands bring a good deal of tourism. To save any traditions such as marriage ceremonies and manhood rituals, the Polynesians need to understand cooperate with the modern world so they can defend their way of life. Traditions such as religion and coming of age should be kept to remain unique, but otherwise the Polynesians should dive into modernization.

The Netsilik are in a different and colder situation. These pioneering people have braved the most chilling of climates and have called thus climate home. Now incorporated into Canada, the Netsilik have gained many modern benefits. They have their own town, medical and school where children learn the traditional language and English, use computers, and other school matters. The Netsilik should hold back modernization because the land they have lived on for many generations is valued only by them. With no one knocking at their door, traditional culture should be maintained and the Netsilik should only join the modern world when the harsh environment defeats them.

Do to the vastly different environments these peoples inhabit, The Polynesians should modernize and the Netsilik should not.
