I am considered a newbie at the current company that I am working for. I have been categorized this for the past four years now because I changed jobs under a two year period. There are social and work pressures when you start a new company. I will start with the positive to being a newbie at a new company. The pro is that you are starting off fresh with no knowledge of how anything operates as well as the office politics. It is a nice change from the last job where I felt like I was exposed to quickly to the office politics to the daily grind of work. The con is that you are vulnerable to people taking advantage of you when your roles and responsibility are not defined clearly. Also, finding your click and making a good impression amongst your peers.
All of these factors can make any newbie feel isolated from the rest of the department as well as the company because the people who have been at the company for a while sometimes forget what it is like to be a newbie. Frankly, I am tired of being a newbie and I am looking forward to be a veteran at a company. I can not wait until I know what department I need to go to in order to get my project completed or how to handle the situation when I have to work with so many different personalities. Not to mention, knowing the insides and outside how the company operates to know when to push buttons and when to not push as much. Hopefully, the current company and I are a good match for longevity. So far, it’s been two months and six days and going strong. I wish this honeymoon phase will last forever.
