The weather was quite unusual this season. The famine stretched for miles across the deserted forest. Suddenly, a timid cricket scampered out from under a leaf and quickly scurried away as a toad hopped after it in great hunger. ‘Oh dear,' thought the little insect. ‘I bet my life would be so much easier if I was a giant elephant. That toad would never be able to eat me.' Unexpectedly, a magical pig appeared within the air before his eyes.
“I heard your plea and have come to grant it if you truly desire this wish.”
The cricket answered without hesitation, “Yes! Please change me into an elephant so I can escape the toad chasing me.”
“Very well, you will become an elephant tomorrow. I'm a bit busy today…”
“Wait!” shrieked the cricket. “I need to be one now or I will die for sure!” After seeing that the pig would not return, the cricket decided to find shelter before his enemy would reach him. Finally, he jumped beneath a rock and covered himself in soil, muttering angrily since the pig didn't grant his wish yet.
The next morning, the cricket slowly opening his eyes.
“A-am I an elephant yet?” the cricket said to himself. Once he looked at his tiny legs, the cricket exploded in fury.
“Unbelievable! I am still a weak, little insect. The pig better turn me into an elephant or else I will just throw myself to the toads.” Then, the magical pig appeared once more.
“Fine. If you must rush this precious wish, I am not here to stop you. From now on, you will be known as an elephant.” The cricket's body began to expand uncontrollably. He towered over the dead vegetation that scattered across the forest floor. The transformed elephant peered down and spotted a few crickets wandering about.
“Hello there!” thundered his voice. “I am…I mean, I was a cricket too!” The insects scurried away in fear. The startled elephant realized he wouldn't meet any friends this way since the entire forest of animals was afraid of him. If he had waited for the right time for his wish to be granted, the elephant would have had several friends, besides that he wouldn't need to worry about becoming lunch.
Wishes, on their way to coming true, will not be rushed.
