There is an old legend about black unicorn. Unidare - that's how Romans called this dark creature. Unidare used to feed in the mountains there. Grass and roots and an occasional snake or vermin. Every night it would fly over the city toward his wide like four bright red stars. Or maybe two big nasty vampire bats, if you like it this way. People in the city knew that around the place Unidare lands upon rubies and diamonds appears. There was a magic in its hoofs. So people would go to the mountains and seek those precious stones. Because of it the city prospered and no one was poor or starving.
They bought slaves and big ships and fine armor, not saying they had to fight anyone though. But one day they came up with a good (as they thought then) idea. Okay, thought they, Unidare comes and goes and never stays long in one place, and we have to spend so much time in these hot mountains looking for stones. Zeus almighty! What if we collect some snakes, mice and sweet bananas and put them into one place on the closest hill.
Unidare would come and spend the whole night feasting. And we would just go and load our bags. So they did it. They collected snakes and mice and bananas and made a huge pile on the nearest hill. Unidare came, all right, and ate and spent all night in one place. But at dawn its fire hoofs melted the earth and volcano erupted. Lava poured into the city. Well, you got the idea... There were no city, no more after that night. Couple of thousands years later people digged up that place, called it Pompeii... Ha. Unidare didn’t like the outcome either, never came to that place again. I heard it was seen a few times in New Zeeland, might be a good place to look for diamonds, you know.
