Wedding Thrills and Frills: Still Wanna Get Hitched?

Saying ‘I do’ is never easy especially when little disasters start knocking...

Feeling elated by the thought of getting married? Who wouldn’t? I did – but wedding preparations will obviously drive you to out of your senses. I’m telling you, if you’re planning to be hitched NEVER think you can do it in just a nick of time. A wedding either grand or not needs much more time than you’ll ever think, discover and realize.

I’ve had my wedding preparations 6 months before the wedding but still it drove me out of my wits as it drew nearer. I thought I had it all planned and ironed out. Yes, I had my picked my motif, designed my own invitations, finalized my list of the entourage, even looked for a tailor to cut my bridal gown and the rest of my entourage’s gowns and dresses.

Just when you think everything’s going your way, well think AGAIN! Problems started pouring in one by one. First, the printing press wouldn’t follow my designs. There’s no way the cover design can be embossed, that it will get expensive the moment they follow my design. What the hell am I paying them for in the first place?! I have to cash out thousands more just to have my dream invitation. Then the menu for the reception - it wasn’t the original menu I’ve chosen. Modifications were made due to changes of prices. That wasn’t much of a problem since the hotel has a reputable name in the business. I was assured the best food would be served.

One bit of advice: be inquisitive of all the offered packages you’re getting for your wedding. Not only do these packages give you the cheaper value and more freebies, it sounds appealing. Never would I imagine that I would later regret choosing one of the best packages in video and photography coverage. I was informed in short notice that in order to avail of the free outdoor photo shoot I would still pay 20% of the full price of the package! I ended up opting for the cheapest package. Who would blame me? It was sort of a payback for tricking me into getting the expensive package. If they think they would get a lump sum of money from me then they had the wrong person to fool. They ended up getting 30% of the price of the original package and losing 70% of it.

Not all was sort of messed up though … not completely anyway. The reservation for our suite encountered a slight problem. The hotel was currently having renovations so we we’re transferred to a much smaller room. Who would want a room with a single bed on their honeymoon? It would be hell! It’s just by some miracle our wedding coordinator found a good replacement for our suite and with a queen-sized bed … halleluiah!

If there’s anything that is most important in a wedding, it would be the bride’s wedding dress. Donning the perfect wedding gown is the only way a bride can be the most beautiful woman in the world on her wedding day. I almost ended up being the rag of all brides having my gown made in pure white (never wanted to be caught wearing pure white wedding gown!) and worst making it like second skin. There was no way I could breathe in that gown … truly a disaster of all monster disasters!

I still ended up walking the aisle. Well after dashing a big ran to the nearest ready to wear gowns where I found my dream wedding gown! Wondering whatever happened to my tailored-made wedding gown? It remained in its box, never worn.

A good organized wedding checklist not only lists everything that you have to do, or at least that you might want to include, but it also gives you a good enough time frame. Some wait until it is much too late to order their bridesmaid dresses. A good wedding checklist will advise you to do it early enough for the order to come in, and to give you plenty of time for required alterations. It might tell you to do this six months before the actual wedding, where as many might wait until three months before and end up with a lot of problems. You should somewhat conclude that something will go awry, so giving yourself time is much better than cutting it close.
