Models these days are really watching their figure. Watching their figure too much! There should be a minimum weight for professional models. What do I mean by that? I mean that models who make money by modelling should weigh more than a certain weight. Have you seen today's models? They are as thin as a toothpick! And what do they eat? The answer is, nothing! The competition between these models has become so fierce that they don't care about their health anymore!
Statistics shows that the death toll is equal for people who are fat and thin! So it is pure stupidity to lose weight when you know you're damaging your health. Losing too much weight might really be bad for you.
Diet for a model
Models don't eat enough. Face it. This is a typical diet for a model. In the morning, at 9 o'clock, she would have a boiled egg and a slice of wholemeal bread for breakfast. She would then have a subway club sandwich for lunch. A granola bar for a snack would come next. For dinner, she would have grilled chicken and vegies. And, to top it off, she would have a snack which would be a bowl of chopped watermelon. Her total number of calories for the day would have been one thousand three hundred. That is not a lot compared to what we normally have.
Eating disorders
Models these days are really harmed by eating disorders. One type of disorder is anorexia. Anorexic people don't eat a lot of food because they think they're fat. But, in fact they are underweight.
Bulimic people are people who eat a lot, mostly sweet and high calorie foods. They then compensate for this by self induced vomiting or by using laxatives. Unlike anorexics, they are aware of their behaviour but don't want to do anything about it.
Role models
Professional models aren't the only people who are being harmed. They aren't only models by beauty but they are also role models. People are watching these models lose their weight to the extreme, so they are trying to copy them. Millions of people around the world are trying to become underweight so that they can look good in front of other people. About one in a hundred women are bulimic. This shows the effect of bad role models towards ordinary citizens.
Solution
This problem can be solved. Modeling companies should make limits to the weight of models. This has been started by one company but should be continued by others. The company that banned underweight models was the Madrid fashion show. They banned women with a Body Mass Index of below eighteen. The women who's BMI was below eighteen were classed as unhealthy and in need of medical help.
This just backs up my point of minimum weights for professional models. There should be a minimum weight for models that make money by modeling. If a minimum weight was implied around the world, a lot of lives will be made better. People will not view these models as skinny and try to copy them.
