Olive oil is a kitchen essential most of us use on a daily basis. It is known to be healthy for us to cook with but it also has other fantastic uses; it is a main ingredient in many beauty products available on the high street today and is perfect for facials, exfoliating, softening your skin – and also for hair treatments. We did a little bit of research and came up with some simple at-home beauty recipes for you to try as part of your daily beauty routine.
Before bed, apply olive oil to your feet, paying special attention to any dry skin, such as your heels and ankles. Wear a pair of clean cotton socks overnight.
Rub a small amount of olive oil into any dry patches on your body, such as elbows and knees. The olive oil will work to soften and moisturise these areas.
For an intensive hair treatment, wash your hair as normal then apply a small amount of olive oil from root to tip. Wrap in a warm towel for twenty minutes before rinsing. The olive oil works as a deep conditioner and will even help to soften frizz. There is no need to condition after this treatment.
To use as an intensive treatment (preferably overnight), mix two parts olive oil with one part water and one part vinegar. The vinegar lightens skin discolorations and kills bacteria while the olive oil moisturises the skin. Wash face thoroughly with clean water – do not dry. Apply treatment.
As an exfoliating scrub, massage olive oil onto face. Use a small amount of salt to gently scrub your face, which will remove any dead or loose skin cells and dirt. Use lukewarm water and a face cloth to remove mixture for a smooth, clean complexion.
Drizzle some olive oil into a warm bath. The warm water will open your pores while the olive oil will lightly coat your skin, smoothing and locking in moisture.
To soften thick cuticles, rub a tiny amount of olive oil around the base of your nail and along the cuticles.
