In Africa today women are treated as property of their fathers and their husbands. These women go through more hardships then any person should ever go through in a lifetime, and we let these things happen. Today in Africa, not years or centuries ago, women are sold to the man how can provide the biggest dowry to her family, at ages as young as nine years old. This is a practice that should appall everyone, but it goes on unstopped every day.
Women are told that they have to obey their husbands no matter what. This means that no matter what horrific things a husband may do his wife must obey him or be subjected to horrendous beatings. Young women are picked by men many times twice or three times their age, for marriage, when they are five, six, or younger for marriage. In most of the world this would be considered pedophilia, but in Africa this is seen as a common and within a mans rights.
These women go through more pain and suffering then any one should go through, and the world has done nothing to safe them. By educating ourselves about this growing problem, we may be able to help these women free themselves from their horrific lives. Today we, as a human race, need to help these women be freed and live a life outside of fear. By becoming aware of this epidemic, we may be able to save young girls from this fate.
